Writers in the Next Stage Touring Production

Look for our touring production in Fall 2007...

Playwrights Project has commissioned a new play by Annie Weisman, written specifically for middle and high school audiences. The play will tour schools in San Diego next fall.

Annie's nationally acclaimed plays include Be Aggressive and Hold Please. Annie was a teenager in 1992, when she entered her first play in our California Young Playwrights Contest. The play won, and Annie worked with Playwrights Project to mount her first professional production.

The kids couldn't stop talking about it, because they understood it and could really relate to it. Besides the laughter, some teachers were actually moved to tears... We would love to have this play back next year. Do two if you have to, but BRING THIS ONE BACK!

In Fall of 2006, we toured...

Script and songs by Jim Knable

School audiences, grades 4-12, were moved by the story of 15-year old Sylvia, a star student on the path to becoming a doctor when her family moves from their native Mexico to California. As she plunges into a new school, culture and language, she worries that her lifelong goal has moved out of reach. Sylvia's journey to reclaim her identity will resonate with students from all backgrounds.

Jim Knable's Lost in Words sparkles with the humor, sensitivity and imagination that audiences loved in his earlier works for Playwrights Project, The Best Mistake and Hyper-Focus. Knable is a dramatist and songwriter based in New York. As a teenager, he was a three-time winner of the California Young Playwrights Contest, which launched his writing career. Lost in Words is directed by D. Candis Paule and Robert May.
